Mem: ADHD Widget — Privacy Policy
Published by Tethered Flow · Effective October 13, 2026
Mem is a small desktop widget that shows the apps and browser tabs you used recently, plus a timer. This page says in plain English what Mem records, what it never records, and where it is kept. If the app changes, this page changes with it.
The short version: Mem records which app and which browser tab you are on, keeps it encrypted on your own computer, and sends it nowhere. There is no account, no cloud and no tracking.
WHAT MEM RECORDS
Two things, and only while you are using them:
1. The app you are in. Its name, and where its program file is on your computer (used to show its icon).
2. The browser tab you are on, in Chrome, Edge and Firefox. The page title, and the site's domain (for example github.com).
For each, Mem keeps how long you spent there and when you were last there. That is what you see in the widget: "12 min · 3 min ago".
Mem keeps at most the 50 most recent entries, and deletes anything older than 24 hours unless you change that.
WHAT MEM NEVER RECORDS
- Keystrokes. The only key press Mem is told about is its own show/hide shortcut (Ctrl+Alt+M). The only place you can type in Mem is the "Never record" box in its privacy window.
- The clipboard.
- Screenshots or screen recordings.
- The contents of web pages, documents or windows.
- Full web addresses. To find the domain, Mem looks at the browser's address bar, keeps the domain, and discards the rest at once. Paths and search terms are never stored. Mem does not read the address bar while you are typing in it.
- Private, Incognito and InPrivate windows. Nothing about them is recorded, not even that the browser was open.
- Anything on your "Never record" list, or anything while Mem is paused.
- Mem's own windows, the desktop, the taskbar, the Start menu and the lock screen.
- Anything you look at for less than 3 seconds.
- Time while you are away. If the mouse and keyboard have not been used for 5 minutes, Mem stops counting. To know this, Mem asks Windows how long ago the last input was. It receives a length of time and nothing else: not which key, not what was typed, not where the mouse is.
WHEN MEM CANNOT BE SURE, IT RECORDS LESS
A private window must never be recorded, so Mem only records a tab title when it can positively tell the window is a normal one. Otherwise it records just the browser's name, with no title and no site. Today that applies to:
- Chrome and Firefox when their menus are not in English.
- Browser pop-up windows with no tab bar.
- Firefox's first window while its first-run dialog is showing.
YOUR CONTROLS
- Pause: one click on the widget or from the tray icon. Mem stays paused until you resume, including after a restart.
- Never record: a list of words and sites that Mem skips completely. It comes prefilled with common password managers and banking terms and sites. Adding an entry also deletes matching history immediately.
- Auto-delete: history older than 24 hours is deleted. You can set this from 1 hour to 30 days.
- Delete all history now: removes everything from memory and from disk.
- Uninstall: uninstalling Mem deletes its history and settings.
WHERE YOUR INFORMATION IS KEPT
- Only on your computer, in Mem's own storage folder. Nothing is uploaded.
- It is encrypted using Windows' built-in protection for your user account. Another Windows account, or someone with a copy of the files on another computer, cannot read it.
- One honest limit: Windows will decrypt these files for any program running as you, on your computer, while you are signed in. That is how Mem itself reads them. The encryption protects against other accounts, a stolen disk and backups; it does not protect against other software you choose to run.
HOW MEM READS THIS INFORMATION
- The app in front comes from Windows directly.
- The tab title comes from the browser window's title.
- The site's domain and the private-window check come from the Windows accessibility interface, reading the browser's own toolbar. Mem does not read the web page area.
- No browser extension is installed or needed.
NETWORK AND SHARING
- No account, no sign-in, no cloud, no sync.
- No telemetry, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reports.
- We do not sell or share your information with anyone. We never receive it in the first place.
- Mem's own code makes no network requests.
Your purchase is handled by the Microsoft Store. Mem asks the Microsoft Store part of Windows whether you are in the free trial or have bought Mem. Windows answers from its own record of your Store licences. Mem sends nothing about you or your history for this, and when you press Buy, the purchase happens in the Microsoft Store's own window. Mem never sees your payment details. Microsoft's handling of your Store account is covered by Microsoft's own privacy statement.
When the 7-day trial ends without a purchase, Mem stops recording, exactly as if paused, until you buy it. The timer keeps working, and nothing already recorded is sent anywhere.
One connection Mem cannot switch off. Mem's interface is drawn by Microsoft's WebView2 component, which is part of Windows. When Mem starts, that component makes one connection to a Microsoft server. It is made by a part of the component that Mem cannot configure, and we have not been able to see what it sends. We have switched off every background service of that component that can be switched off. We are telling you rather than hiding it: Mem sends nothing; a Windows component Mem depends on makes one connection to Microsoft when Mem starts.
CHILDREN
Mem is a general productivity tool. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age, beyond what is described above, which stays on the device.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If Mem changes what it records or where it keeps it, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change.
